Straight cut, in a figure-flattering A-line design or in a trendy oversized variety – short coats have established themselves as a flexible wardrobe favourite. A button placket or zip or small stand-up, lapel or shawl collar makes it an elegant alternative to a slightly sportier jacket. Pastel, ice-lolly colours, bright red and radiant blue bring along the feel-good vibes.
Longer than a jacket and shorter than a coat – the short coat goes great with trousers, mini dresses and knee-length skirts. Tonal looks in muted colours such as light grey, beige or cognac are especially sophisticated. Or make a bold colour statement with a short coat in an otherwise understated outfit.
Short coats come in lots of different materials. Whether you opt for a classic wool design or a model made of functional materials depends on what occasions you need it for. Short coats made of cosy wool are more elegant but aren’t quite as resistant to the weather. Functional textiles would be the way to go to battle against autumn winds and April showers.
